A witness to each other's LIFE..... !

Mar 16, 2011
I am presently posted in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery....ok my least favourite ! But ,Alhamdulilah, many instances & situations I have learnt from....

A bright Wednesday morning, HOD 's off day....& So we breathe a lil easy....It was just me & another co-intern present today.Rest two were on leave....

A man aged (around 30's) comes to the Dept. asking for Dr. A since his wife has to undergo an impaction surgery! The whole time, husband was talking & explaining the problem.Wife was pretty quite....

It dint strike me until my co-intern said me , " She is deaf & dumb".

Dental chair brings out the worst of anxiousness in any person. Then imagine being in such a situation & not being able to voice your fears.Such was her state.Yet her husband patiently waited with her, beside her dental chair, communicating back & forth with her & Dr.A (in sign languange) . Seeing the husband's devotion & care,I had a newfound respect for him!

They say younger people these days, donot know how to handle difficulties in relationships. They say 'divorce-is-the-answer-for-every-problem' for our generation. Why do they not look at couples like these & change their views!

My silent prayers......

& Yet again another patient comes in,around 60 years....She tells me quite innocently , " Novaaayithu illi' " Thakiss bedaa" " hallu Powder" meaning 'Its Paining here' ' dont remove' 'Teeth Powder'.... Its after a while it struck me 'by powder' she meant ,place a restoration,or in other words, just fill the cavity. She was quite anxious & dint want to remove her teeth. So I sent her to the Dept of Cons & Endo to get their opinion on whether the teeth can be saved or whether it should be extracted out! They send back a report saying the teeth cannot be saved since there was Grade II mobility along with furcation involvement.Which means the teeth has to undergo extraction. Her husband patiently explained to her the procedure & convinced her for the extraction.I was just writing the OP,taking the patient consent ,advicing her for preliminary investigations ,while I asked the medical history & the husband replies, 'She is having Parkinsonism & Schizoprenia since the past 8 years'.

Alhamdulilah, the case went fine & was treated by Dr. L.

I was at overwhelmed seeing the husband's love , knowing of his wife's mental health, yet his love surpassing all boundaries, not expecting anything back....

Today I saw a younge couple,in the beginning of their journey together ,knowing of each other's imperfections, yet accepting it & moving ahead...

An aged couple , who (might have) lived a happy togethersome life for the past (so many ) years & when a disease arose, sticking with each other through all odds....

They Ayah from the Holy Qur'an becomes more clear to me,
"And among His signs is this, He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in peace and tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts) : Verily in that are signs for those who reflect" ( 30:21)
(A beautiful explanation of the above verse is given in Tafhimul Quran-can access at www.englishtafsir.com)

Yes,in the love between spouses, there indeed is a sign of the Lord above! or else how can we explain the love & understanding between two people who usually meet around 20's or 30's ( or earlier or later) ,who aren't related by blood or relation to be such strong supporters of each other until either breathes their last!

"...Bind two strangers bought up in different enviroments so intimately together that the two remained attached to each other through every thich & thin of life..." ( From Tafhimul Qur'an )
If you can feel your 5 senses, don't forget to say , ' Alhamdulilah' cos there are many who cannot......

If u can make coherent conversations & perceive things as it is,don't forget to say , ' Alhamdulilah' cos there are many who cannot...

If u have a spouse who will be there by your side,no matter what, don't forget to say , 'Alhamdulilah ' cos there are many who are not blessed so...
